Hi, I am Omolara Anknola, a first year student midwife. In 2016, when pregnant with my second child, I developed gestational diabetes. My care was transferred to Sadie Hafford, Specialist Midwife for Diabetes whom I had many appointments with alongside the obstetricians. I am eternally grateful to Sadie and the team as they really monitored my pregnancy and I felt cared for and supported. They made me feel I was not alone in my pregnancy journey and I always looked forward to my appointments with them.
Even though my last appointment was with them when I was 29 weeks pregnant, their care was amazing. Unfortunately, my Mum who lives in America became unwell and I needed to travel to be with her, which meant my baby was born abroad. However, the way I was cared for by the Maternity Diabetic team at Darent Valley Hospital (DVH) made me decide to pursue a career in Midwifery. I purposely enrolled with the University of Greenwich as I really wanted to have my training at DVH. Luckily, I was accepted onto the course and here I am now training to be a midwife at the hospital that cared for me so well!
This is my dream come true, as it will give me an opportunity to contribute my quota to the excellent organisation and also pass on the high-quality service to the patients.
