We are thrilled to announce that our incredible team of Perinatal Mental Health and Maternal Wellbeing Midwives has been shortlisted in the Partnership category for the Royal College of Midwives (RCM) Award. This recognition is a testament to their unwavering dedication and groundbreaking work on the project titled Trauma-Informed Care for Survivors of Sexual Assault Across Maternity and Gynaecology, in partnership with The Survivors Trust.
Amidst a sexual violence pandemic, with an alarming 1 in 4 women experiencing sexual assault (Office for National Statistics, 2021), our team recognised the urgent need for action. Their collaborative efforts with The Survivors Trust have paved the way for a comprehensive and compassionate approach to supporting not only those who disclose sexual violence but every patient we meet.
Key achievements of this initiative include:
Champion Workforce: Establishing 'trauma-informed champions' across maternity, gynaecology, and the Emergency Department (ED) to provide specialised support.
Educational Integration: Incorporating trauma-informed care sessions into the monthly mandatory midwifery study day, ensuring all midwives within the trust are equipped with essential skills by the end of 2024.
Long-Term Impact: Through comprehensive training, policy development, interdisciplinary collaboration, continuous monitoring, and advocacy, the initiative promises sustained improvements in patient care and health outcomes.
This nomination highlights the exceptional impact of our midwives' work, reflecting their commitment to enhancing patient experiences and promoting holistic well-being. The project stands as a beacon of hope, demonstrating the transformative power of trauma-informed care within maternity and related services.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to our midwife team for this well-deserved recognition. Their passion, dedication, and innovative spirit are truly commendable. As they continue to lead the way in providing compassionate and informed care, we look forward to the positive changes and long-term benefits their efforts will bring to both patients and healthcare providers.
Once again, congratulations to our outstanding team of midwives for being shortlisted for this prestigious award. Your work is not only changing lives but also setting a new standard of care in the healthcare community.
