Your application

Once you have found a vacancy you would like to apply for, read all the guidance on this page carefully, you will need to complete an application form through TRAC jobs.

  • Take time to read all the information including, the advert, job description, person specification and supporting documents.
  • If you have any questions about the role or would like to arrange an informal visit, please get in touch with the named contact on the advert.
  • Make sure you complete all sections of the application form. If sections of the form do not apply to you write not applicable (N/A).  You will need to explain any gaps in your employment.
  • Read through the form for any errors or omissions before you send it.
  • Your completed application form will be assessed and scored by a short listing panel.  If you gain a sufficient score you will be invited to attend for interview.
  • Please note, the shortlisting panel cannot see any personal identifiable information, including equality and diversity monitoring information.

Each post will have a job description and person specification.  The job description lists the main types of duties and responsibilities of the post.  The person specification outlines the skills, knowledge, experience and qualifications that you will need for the job.

You should start with your current or most recent employment and work backwards.  Ensure that it is clear from each job when you worked there, what your main duties and responsibilities were.You will need to account for any gaps in your employment history. Please include both paid and unpaid employment.

The purpose of the section is for you address each criteria in the person specification. You will need to explain how your skills, abilities and knowledge are relevant to the job and to give examples to evidence this.  

It is a good idea to title each section with the Criteria. For example :

Education and Training

  • Criteria 1 Evidence of continuing development – give evidence of this

Knowledge

  • Criteria 1  – Risk management – explain your knowledge

Experience

  • Criteria 1  - Currently working in relevant area – give evidence of this 

Make sure you address every criteria 

Remember to consider both the essential and desirable criteria in the person specification.
