Offered a post

Offers of employment are conditional upon you satisfactorily completing the necessary NHS Employment Check Standards.  The number and level of checks we will need to complete will depend on the post you have been offered.

Your conditional offer of employment letter and supporting documentation will be prepared by the Recruitment department, and emailed to you.

The NHS Employment Check Standards apply to all applications for NHS positions and staff in ongoing NHS employment.

There are six sets of Standards; right to work checks, employment history and reference checks, registration and qualification checks, occupational health checks, verification of identity checks, Disclosure and Barring Check.

For further information on the NHS Employment Check Standards visit, www.nhsemployers.org/EmploymentChecks.

Please note the conditional offer of employment may be withdrawn if, at any time it becomes apparent that you have either knowingly withheld information or have provided misleading or false information, or if the NHS Employment Check Standards are not satisfactorily met.

Darent Valley Hospital has staff accommodation onsite. More information is available HERE.

Supporting Applicants with Disabilities - click HERE to find out more.

Whether you require a Disclosure and Barring Service check and the level of check will depend on the post you have been conditionally offered.

If the post you have been conditionally offered requires a DBS check, you will be sent details of the online link and guidance notes for completing the DBS check.

In line with the DBC code of practice all applicants requiring a DBS check must have their identity verified. If you have not already done so, please provide original identification to the Trust’s Recruitment department.

Failure to declare a conviction, caution, warning or reprimands may result in either the withdrawal of your conditional offer of employment or the termination of your employment with the Trust.  So it is important that you declare any conviction, caution, warning or reprimands to us if you did not do so during the application and interview process.

The Trust will seek to validate a minimum of three years continuous employment and or training including details of any gaps in service through references.  Employment reference requests will be directed to your current or previous Human Resources department

You should obtain your referees permission before giving their details.  It would also be helpful to the recruitment process if you asked your referees to respond quickly to any reference requests.  We do not request any references until a conditional offer of employment has been made.

The purpose of registration and qualification checks is to ensure that a prospective employee is recognised by the appropriate regulatory body and that they have the right qualifications to do the job.

We will need to see and copy original identification as detailed within the attached documents.  (Attached Immigration and Asylum, right to work checks and verification of identity documents).

Please note, we will scan your right to work and identity documents using an automated electronic authentication system to ensure all the correct secure features are present.

Start date

Once all the necessary recruitment paperwork is satisfactorily in place, we will ask your line manager to contact you to agree a start date.

Once a start date has been agreed, the Recruitment department will email you your contract of employment, and joining paperwork to complete prior to your first working day.

First working day

On you first working day, you are required to report to the Recruitment department at the time specified to submit your joining paperwork/and or complete the necessary joining paperwork.

You will also have your photograph taken for your identity badge.

Induction for the new employee

You will be booked onto the Trust corporate induction programme within the first couple of week of your employment. Your line manager will also arrange a local induction for you, to orientate you into your new place of work.

All NHS staff must have a pre-appointment health check, which adheres to equal opportunities legislation and good Occupational Health practice.

A Occupational Health questionnaire will be enclosed with your conditional offer of employment letter, please complete and return this form as soon as possible to the Occupational Health department.

Once you have sent the completed questionnaire you should contact the Occupational Health department to make an appointment.

If you are required to wear a uniform for your post, you will be given a uniform form to complete.

Please complete and return this form as soon as possible in person to the linen room, so that your measurements and uniform order can be placed ready for your first working day.
