I qualified from St Thomas’ Hospital Medical School in 1990 and was a South East Thames Trainee until my appointment as consultant obstetrician at Queen Mary’s Hospital, Sidcup in 2001. My research interest was in High Risk Obstetrics reviewing cases where women suffered significant complications in pregnancy. This led to several publications in the British Medical Journal, British Journal of Obstetric and Gynaecology and national presentations. I continue to undertake clinically-based research, usually in collaboration with Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital.
Following my appointment at Darent Valley Hospital in 2009, I returned to gynaecology and take a special interest in recurrent miscarriage. My main areas of interest in obstetrics are mental health, high risk patients and fetal monitoring in labour. I am a recognised expert in the field of CTG interpretation and lecture regularly on this topic, including a CTG Masterclass course I run every month.
Throughout my early consultant career I was College Tutor, providing support and guidance for trainees in O&G. I was appointed Director of Medical Education at Darent Valley Hospital in April 2012, with responsibility for the training of all doctors in the Trust. In January 2012, the Simulation and Skills Suite was formally opened, a project I was jointly responsible for developing. I stepped down from the DME role after around 18 months as I was disillusioned by the politics but continue to be very active in directly supporting our trainees.
My specific gynaecology interests include recurrent miscarriage, menopause, minimal access surgery, fibroids to name but a few. I do not undertake any vaginal prolapse surgery.
