I am Rakesh Bhardwaj, a Laparoscopic General Consultant and Colorectal Surgeon.
About me
I trained at Bristol University (1988-1993). After my House Officer Posts I continued my Surgical Training at Cardiff University by teaching Human Anatomy. At the Cardiff Royal Infirmary I undertook a period of training in Accident and Emergency. A two year Basic Rotation followed at Manchester Royal Infirmary. I then undertook a Research Higher Degree in the field of Colorectal Surgery at University College London and was awarded an MD. My Higher Surgical Training followed for a period of eight years on the South East Thames Rotation. (Brighton, Dartford, Sidcup, Medway, Woolwich, St Thomas' and Margate).
After obtaining my Final FRCS I then underwent a Specialist Fellowship training as a Resident Surgical Officer at St Mark's Hospital. I was then awarded a Fellowship by Ethicon Endosurgery to continue my specialist general and colorectal Laparoscopic Training in Plymouth. During my training I have visited institutions in Rome and the US to gain further Colorectal Experience. I am currently a Consultant Laparoscopic General and Colorectal Surgeon based at Darent Valley Hospital, Dartford.
My interests include all forms of abdominal surgery (listed above). I have particular specialist experience in Colorectal Surgery and can offer treatments for Colorectal Cancer, Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Functional Bowel Disease. This includes general and specialist colonic, rectal and anal conditions.
I have a partcicular interest in medical publications and have published widely in the filed of colorectal surgery. This academic and teaching interest continues into my consultant career.
