Requests for ergonomic assessments are available via dvh.occhealth@nhs.net or referrals come from occupational health employees i.e. Doctors, nurses or physiotherapists for ergonomic assessments and are available for all employees, regardless if they have patient contact or not, within Dartford & Gravesham NHS Trust.

The training program has changed.

All staff need to complete Level 1 Moving & Handling e-learning via e-Learning for Healthcare which covers legislation etc. Once completed clinical employees (Level 2) will need to go to Mandatory Core Skills Training (Interim Guidance) and opt for Moving and Handling L2 Training Videos. Once these have been watched you will then need to complete the relevant online confirmation form, which can be found on the Mandatory Core Skills Training (Interim Guidance) main page.  This enables training records be updated and a copy will come to dgn-tr.movingandhandling@nhs.net and the manual handling team will attend wards / departments and work with wards / departments and individuals to assess competencies

Referrals via patient risk assessment is on admission, (which follows a scoring system and includes high risk, Bariatric or complex patients) go to dgn-tr.movingandhandling@nhs.net

I am dedicated to nursing and have never wanted to do anything else. I have been working as a nurse from the age of 16 and have worked in many different fields and expertise.  I am a very hands on nurse, I trained in the old style of nursing and have also worked with many fantastic mentors, which has improved my communication, experience, knowledge, skills, confidence and compassion.

I am a Specialist Nurse (RGN) at Darent Valley Hospital and I provide clinical expertise as a Back care and Ergonomic Advisor (Staff related, within the umbrella of occupational health)

I also am the lead in manual handling and Bariatric patient care to promote patient-centered quality care, safe manual handling practice, organisation-wide staff training/ education program, which include competency checks and building safe regulations and standards. 

All incidents involving employee injuries, in particular, back, neck, and shoulders will be looked into and reported on via the Datix system and advice, support and information is given to prevent further injury. If required manual handling will assist the individual and observe them in Practise to see if further help is required.
