Our A&E is very busy. Please only come in an emergency. Non-emergency cases may face long waiting times.

If you're unsure, visit NHS 111 for advice and to find the right service.

You can also go to an Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) for minor injuries, or see a pharmacist depending on your needs.

  • Our A&E is open 24/7, every day of the year, for urgent and emergency care due to illness or injury.
  • For visitor guidance, please see our visiting page.

  • Patients can bring one person or carer with them to A&E.
  • Unfortunately, we cannot allow anyone to accompany patients in the Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) due to space limits.

  • Children who are very unwell, in Resus, or have complex medical needs can have both parents/guardians with them once in a cubicle or Resus room.
  • If parents/guardians need support with decisions, both can stay in the cubicle.
  • If admitted, both parents/guardians can stay during the day and doctors' rounds. Only one can stay overnight.
  • In the waiting area, only one parent/guardian can stay with the child, but they can swap to provide breaks.
  • If the child is well and waiting for results, we may ask you to return to the waiting area. Only one parent/guardian can stay with the child while waiting.
