Intensive Therapy Unit (ITU) / High Dependency Unit (HDU)

Advance notice of works - 27 & 28 December 2024:

Essential flooring work is scheduled to take place in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Darent Valley Hospital on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th December.

All staff, visitors and visiting teams are kindly asked to check in at the audit office before entering the ICU.

Darent Valley Hospital has both an Intensive Therapy Unit (ITU) / High Dependency Unit (HDU). These are special ward providing intensive care (treatment and monitoring) for people who are in a critically ill or unstable condition. The units are multidisciplinary, admitting the more complicated elective surgical patients and all general, medical and surgical patients requiring intensive or high dependency care.

Darent Valley Hospital holds the gold standard for recording and storing accurate patient information, including at the bedside. 

ITU/HDU can be daunting

Being in ITU/HDU can be a daunting experience, both for the person who is in hospital and for their family and friends. Our healthcare professionals who work in  these units understand this and will to help the person who is in intensive care, as well as offering support to their family and friends.
