- The goal of nutrition support in ICU is to provide adequate nutrition which is tailored to meet patient’s individual requirements, depending upon their medical condition, nutritional status, age and gender. The most appropriate route for delivering nutrition is also assessed, and this can be provided either through oral intake, tube feeding or by intravenous feeding.

Dietitians can assess energy, protein, micro- and macro- nutrient requirements and develop effective treatment plans in artificial feeding, modified consistency diets and food first approaches. We form part of the stroke multi-disciplinary team and provide dietary advice and support for both patients on the ward and in the community; including nutrition support and secondary stroke prevention.
