Pathology

Our pathology department tests substances from the body such as blood, urine, faeces and tissue, to investigate disease. Our service includes cellular pathology, chemical pathology, haematology and microbiology to provide a wide range of diagnostic and screening services.

Our state-of-the art lab at Darent Valley Hospital ensures we are able to deliver fast and accurate results for patients. Our laboratories are supported by consultant pathologists, who provide reporting and expert advice and discussion. They are supported by experienced technical and administrative staff.

Our laboratories operate 24-hours a day blood sciences service for urgent work and a microbiology service on call service. The majority of blood science samples are processed and reported on the same day. 

The North Kent Pathology Service represents a new model for delivering pathology testing, merging the services from Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust and Medway NHS Foundation Trust into one modern, efficient operation that manages thousands of tests per year.

Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust provides the Cellular pathology service to the Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust under a Service Level Agreement. Access the Maidstone Pathology User Guidelines.

To search for patient, enter the NHS number in the box labelled “NHS No” and press “Search”          ***Ensure there are no spaces between the number***

If your search isn’t successful when using the NHS number, try searching, using the date of birth (only) in the D.O.B box and press “Search”  & peruse the list of patients for the patient you are looking for:

           Examples: 01/01/2020

                              01012020

                              01.01.2020

 

If your search still isn’t successful, it could be that the D.O.B in our system is different to what you have, so try searching using the first few letters of the surname & forename. 

           Example:

 

Please note if it is a paper request form & the forename & surname aren’t obvious, it could be that they are the other way around, so try switching the names.

  • DartOCM GP Order-Comms Help and Support
  • Link to access DartOCM
  • GPs in Dartford, Gravesham and Swanley have access to the online tool Dart OCM GP Order-Communications to request blood tests. Patient records are automatically updated with the results and provide an audit trail to add assurance and confidence
  • GPs outside of Dartford, Gravesham and Swanley can access iLab, which can be accessed from any internet-connected computer to look up blood test results. GPs can contact dvh.ictservicedesk@nhs.net to request an iLab-web account
